1 John 4
2 By this you know the Spirit of God:
Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God:
and this is that spirit of antichrist, of which you have heard that it should come;
and even now already is it in the world.
Since the correct interpretation and understanding of 1 John 4: 2, 3
are of utmost importance and consequence, the relevant Bible passages may speak to this.
Jesus comes from Greek (Ἰησοῦς) and means:
„God saves“ or „God is the Savior“ or M315“YHWH is Savior”
Isaiah 43
10 You are my witnesses, says the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen:
that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am he:
before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
11 I, even I, am the LORD; and besides me there is no savior.
Isaiah 63
12 That led them by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm,
dividing the water before them, to make himself an everlasting name?
16 Doubtless you are our father, though Abraham is ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledges us not:
you, O LORD, are our father, our redeemer; your name is from everlasting.
He has already made His eternal name as God the Savior by delivering Israel from Egypt.
However, this supreme name of God was still hidden in the Old Testament.
Isaiah 45
21 Tell and bring forth your case; yea, let them take counsel together:
who has declared this from ancient time? who has told it from that time? have not I the LORD?
and there is no other God besides me; a just God and a Savior; there is none besides me.
22 Look unto me, and be you saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
God is also the Savior for the ends of the earth, for the nations.
Hosea 13
4 Yet I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt,
and you shall know no god but me: for there is no savior besides me.
John 12
28 Father, glorify your name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying,
I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
God glorified His eternal Savior name when He brought His people Israel out of Egypt
with great acts of power, signs and wonders.
He also glorified it again when He bequeathed His name to His unique Son,
Who accomplished the mighty work of salvation that God, His Father, gave Him.
The Son of God revealed His name and thus the name of God. (John 17:6, 26)
John 5
43 I am come in my Father's name, and you receive me not:
if another shall come in his own name, him you will receive.
John 17 (NAS, NIV (same sense))
11 I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You.
Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me,
that they may be one even as We are one.
Hebrews 1
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person,
and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins,
sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
4 Being made so much better than the angels,
as he has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
1. Corinthians 10
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink:
for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
Exodus 17
6 Behold, I will stand before you there upon the rock in Horeb;
and you shall strike the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink.
And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Numbers 20
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock,
and he said unto them, Hear now, you rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he struck the rock twice:
and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their animals also.
12 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron,
Because you believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel,
therefore you shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
Deuteronomy 32
13 He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields;
and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock;
Isaiah 28
16 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD,
Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation:
he that believes shall not be in haste.
Isaiah 44 (NAS, NIV (same sense))
8 ‘Do not tremble and do not be afraid; Have I not long since announced it to you and declared it?
And you are My witnesses. Is there any God besides Me, Or is there any other Rock? I know of none.’”
Psalms 102
24 I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days:
your years are throughout all generations.
25 Of old have you laid the foundation of the earth:
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They shall perish, but you shall endure: yea, all of them shall grow old like a garment;
as a vesture shall you change them, and they shall be changed:
27 But you are the same, and your years shall have no end.
Hebrews 13
8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
2 Corinthians 11
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his cunning,
so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
1 Peter 1 M322
10 As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace
that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries,
11 seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating
as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.
The spirit of Christ is the spirit of grace (Heb 10:29) and the spirit of truth (1 Joh 4:6).
He is the Spirit of God (Rom 8:9), through whom God has invented for us an eternal salvation (Heb 9:12).
Luke 1 (TR)
35 The angel answered and said to her,
“Holy Spirit will come upon you, and power of the Most High will overshadow you;
therefore also the Holy One begotten in thee shall be called Son of God.“
Luke 1 (NIV, NAS, TR)
35 The angel answered and said to her,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you;
and for that reason the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.
Psalms 118
26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD;…
Matthew 3 (NAS)
17 and behold, a voice out of the heavens said,
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”
Other passages: Mt 12:18; 17:5; Mk 1:11; 9:7; Lk 3:22; 9:35.
Mark 12
29 And Jesus answered him,
The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel;
The Lord our God is one Lord;
The God of Israel is also the God of the nations:
Romans 3
29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
30 Seeing it is one God, who shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
Isaiah 52 (NAS)
7 How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news,
who announces peace and brings good news of happiness, who announces salvation,
and says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
